THE MARINA OPTS AGAIN THIS YEAR FOR THE BLUE FLAG
The Blue Flag on a beach or in a port promotes and recognizes public and private efforts of achieving the required
criteria of legality, accessibility, health, environmental education, cleanliness and safety. As we already mentioned
in our previous edition, in 2021 Marina Greenwich opted for the Blue Flag and finally got it. It was our colleague
and project manager, Rosa Mesa, who was in charge of collecting the award on June 7th of last year, from the Pres-
ident of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig. This year, we are once again opting for this distinction, the result of
which will be known in April.
Since 1987, the Blue Flag is an award given annually by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to
beaches and marinas that meet a series of environmental conditions and facilities. Today, the Blue Flag is not only
a distinctive but a social phenomenon, recognized by millions of users of Spanish beaches and ports. More than
2,000 municipalities in 45 countries and 5 continents already participate in the initiative. It is an example of coop-
eration between the Spanish Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), the FEE, public
companies and other non-profit entities, at international, national, regional and local levels.
